What you see here is a very bad attempt to repair a flat roof. As many of your know, flat roofs are known to have leak problems. Honestly, most flat roof leaks are due to poor workmanship, or substandard materials. In this case the repair person laid several sheets of OSB decking over the old roof (pictured here) and then installed 90 # roll roofing over that. It is no surprise to anyone who knows roofing, that it leaked like crazy.
When we came along the homeowner was very frustrated, and wanted to know what could be done to stop this roof from leaking. The only real solution for him was to tear off the old roof and rebuild it the right way.
Thankfully for this homeowner, the roof had enough hail damage to justify a roof claim and that paid for the work. As you see in the picture we tore off the old roof, including the O
SB that was laid over the old roofing, then we re-decked the roof, and installed an SBS modified flat roof product. This new roof will last for many long years, and I do not foresee any leak problems. As you can see in the picture, the new roof looks much better then the old one. We installed a synthetic underlayment, and SBS modified roll roofing. Doubled up on the pipes, sealed and painted them.
When you have a roofing problem, do not take chances, call the professionals.
